Quoiqu'on ne sache pas les noms des acteurs qui ont cree les roles de l'Avare, il est certain que Moliere lui-meme excellait dans le premier role. La premiere edition de cette comedie date de 1669. L'edition que nous offrons aujourd'hui est publiee a l'occasion de la representation de l'Avare par le Cercle Dramatique Francais de l'Universite du Michigan, le 8 Mai, 1908.
